As a 13 year old, Jim (Jimbo) was diagnosed with Arthritis, but it wasn’t until his 30’s when he really started realizing how much his Arthritis was starting to affect him. “My knees were sore, my wrists didn’t bend as well and my neck rotation was limited.”
At the time, Jim was fortunate to live beside a 40 year old who was “incredibly active and in great shape”. “Through my neighbor, reading a lot of different books and hearing my doctor tell me to stay active, I realized that in order to be a good CEO and to minimize any effects of arthritis, living an active lifestyle is imperative.
Before working with Club Sweat, Jim’s activity had mainly come through a half marathon training clinic which took place between January and April of each year and culminated in running a half marathon on the first Sunday in May. Prior to this, Jim participated and trained for sprint and olympic distance triathlons but it wasn’t until he started working with Dan where he became much more educated on the importance of strength training, nutrition and general habits and routines to improve his workout consistency, which is now 4-5 days a week.
Jim’s main goal before working with Dan was to live an active lifestyle and set a good example for his kids so they will follow in his footsteps but on the other side of things, he was driven by vanity. He wasn’t happy with how his body was looking and he wanted to change it.
After years and years of hard work, Jim had somewhat “plateaued” and was getting quite frustrated by the fact that he was no longer making progress while putting in the time. “There are two things that I did that helped me overcome the “plateau”. One, I started using a Whoop and the data showed me why I had plateaued. Second, I made a bet with my son to get to a certain weight by a specific date. Discussing all of this with Dan & Ash, we came up with the idea to modify my activities slightly – I now do an 18 minute run or bike before or after a Club Sweat workout and most times I break the 18 minutes up by doing 9 minutes before my workout and 9 minutes after. It’s not much time but for me it has made a massive difference.
“Working with Dan and Ash together, we have gotten results. My activity levels are much higher than they were in the past, my body shape has changed (I still have a long way to go), I’m stronger now than I think I’ve ever been and I’m fortunate to have little to no effects from arthritis. It’s not just one thing, it’s many things that Club Sweat does. From having the flexibility of private, semi-private, and virtual classes, the constant discussion/nagging about nutrition, their curiosity about my current weight, what I’m having for dinner, what book I’m reading, and they generally take an interest that I’m staying active. I want to continue to improve (get leaner & stronger) and consistently take a long term view to fitness and my activity levels. Sorry Dan & Ash, you are stuck with me for a long time!”
