Working as an Executive Assistant means long days in the office staring at a computer screen for most of the day. On an average day, 5:00 PM would hit and Gabe would have achieved less than 3,000 steps. “Before joining Club Sweat, I didn’t enjoy exercising. I wished I did, and I liked the idea of it, but the actual act itself was brutal and something I often dreaded after a long workday.”
“I have never considered myself athletic or particularly fit. It has always been something I’d envied in others and wished for myself.” Gabe wanted to be consistent and wanted to enjoy exercise but found that it was something she could never stick to.
Before joining Club Sweat in June of 2018 Gabe’s long term relationship was coming to an end and although she didn’t want to admit it she knew it was her reality. “I had serious fears and concerns about how I would ‘make it on my own’ as after nearly three years our lives and identities slowly began to morph into one. I knew that when this relationship inevitably would end, my mental health would be more fragile than ever and I had to prioritize my health and wellbeing more than I ever had. I was also in search of something that was mine. Not something I did with my partner, not something I relied on my friends for. Just something that I enjoyed and could integrate into my lifestyle long term.
Gabe’s mum, Nina, a former Club Sweat Member, had been enjoying the group classes twice a week for a couple of months and encouraged her to try one out with her. After attending a hard cardio class, Gabe decided to come back for more, and the rest is history!
“Looking back at my first class when a series of jump squats sent me out to the parking lot to empty my insides or the fact that I could only do a single push up when I first joined. I am so proud of all the little victories I have had over my nearly two years with Club Sweat. I now know that I am capable of reaching my goals so long as I show up and give it my all. I am no longer focused on short term weight-loss goals or challenges, I am focussed on my long-term health and lifestyle and that is huge! Looking forward I can no longer picture my life without exercise and without Club Sweat”
