As we get older life gets crazier.
Many put their health on the back burner…when the pain gets unbearable, you look for anything to fix it, FAST. You turn to fad diets. You look for the next exercise craze like Soul Cycle, or diets like the Cucumber diet. You look for programs with a ton of cardio that plop you on a treadmill, bike, or wave around tiny weights for an hour so you can burn calories (Huge Mistake). You look for the high-intensity programs you can do in your basement that promise miracles …in 10 minutes a day.
Here’s the problem with all this.
These programs provide a quick fix that set you up for failure in the long haul.
The big reason why?
None of them focus on building the one form of tissue that will actually make you leaner. Muscle! Not to mention the lack of quality coaching and accountability. We get fatter as we get older because we lose muscle.
Let’s say you’re like most people and you lose weight and gain it back …several times… over a 10-year period. 10 years later… you might be the same weight but you’re not actually healthier or leaner…this is because when you do these types of programs and lose weight quickly… you probably lose muscle
This is a big problem…
When you lose muscle …you end up with a higher percentage of body fat. When your body fat is higher your clothes get tighter, your energy is lower and you put yourself at a higher risk of many health problems
Very few places actually measure how much muscle you have and if the weight you’re actually losing is fat.
They don’t want you to know!
They want you to be happy in the short term from losing weight, but in reality, are making it harder for you down the road.
This is why we focus so much on strength training for people that are over 40! You are going to lose muscle as you get older. Strength training helps you get stronger and gain lean muscle which will help you burn more fat.
This is why lifting weights is so important. Just make sure you seek out the advice of experts who know the most efficient and safest way for you to do it!
