Before joining Club Sweat, Jenn never really thought much about working out or being healthy. Of course, there was the usual joining of gyms with girlfriends but nothing ever seemed to really stick.
Having been a dancer as a child and through to high school, Jenn was dancing five nights a week
at her highest level so she always thought fitness was “just there”. When she stopped dancing, started university and had more freedom, those effects were felt by her body. Jenn was never able to consider herself athletic. Sports were not her thing despite being 6’ tall. She says “she was never recruited by high school basketball team for a reason. Coordination with balls was not my thing. Too much arm length!”
Val, Jenns mum, who is one of Club Sweats’ longest-running members, had been working out with Dan for quite some time and was leaving on vacation. Knowing she would be missing out on her sessions, she asked if Jenn could come in place of her for the time being.
Jen admits she really didn’t have a goal when she started working out with Dan 5 years ago. She took her mum up on the offer to try it out and has never left 🙂
Fast forward 5 years, (November 2019) Jenn was diagnosed with a common condition that reduces her ability to lose weight easily. Jenn decided that she needed to control what she could, and stop expecting that because she was going to the gym 2-3x/week she could continue to eat whatever she wanted without facing any consequences. Jenn was ready to tackle this issue head-on and try to do her best to get it under control and into a place where she felt like she was doing the best for her body. Since November Jenn has lost a whopping 15lbs!
Jenn said she always knew that Club Sweat had another layer than just showing up to the classes or for her personal training sessions but she didn’t have a reason to access it until now. “The willingness to research and guide me while keeping me accountable to my goals has been immeasurable. That’s the key to my success! Having a group of cheerleaders, who genuinely want to give you the tools and see you succeed is the best. I also work harder, because I don’t want to let the Club Sweat team down. Also knowing that you both have ‘been there and done that’ means that you’re not preaching, you’re teaching.”
Along with the constant support that Jenn feels not only for herself but for everyone else, she admits that working out at Club Sweat is “FUN!”. “I love the commentary, the community, and the friendship that I feel I have with the other members. There is zero judgment, and you have helped me to understand that real life happens and that there are going to be things/days/weeks that aren’t going to be perfect, but as long as I come back, I’m going to keep killing it on the schedule and timeline that is right for me and my body.”
“There are so many things that we cannot control in our world. Medical diagnosis, weather, events, etc, etc. But one thing we can control is what we consume, both food-wise and culturally. I decided to focus on those factors, hoping that if I did, everything else that I wanted would fall into place, on the right timeline. It was time for me to focus on myself, what I wanted, and MY needs instead of placing them behind others.”
It’s safe to say.. Jenn, you are on the perfect timeline, and we are just glad that you let us be apart of it. We cant wait to see what the future has in store for you!
