After a high intensity workout your body is crying for nutrients, and it wants them now!!
Ideally it’s best to stick with a high quality protein powder and some sort of starchy carb immediately after you’re done pumping some iron. But what if I told you, you could kick your sugar craving by eating some junk food and still got your ideal body?
Believe it or not you can! Your body NEEDS insulin right after a workout to shuttle those nutrients into your torn up muscle, so why not give your muscles and yourself a treat!
Below are some of my favorite post workout meals.
ICE CREAM
The sweet thing about ice cream is that it taste delicious but the sugar will help promote muscle building and prevent the breakdown of proteinKids cereals
Remember waking up every Saturday morning and having a bowl of lucky charms or fruit loops? Restore those childhood memories right after your workout with a bowl of fruity pebbles. The sugars will help fill up your glycogen stores, will help aid you in recovery, and build some lean muscle.Bagel and Jam
Now you have probably heard all the hoopla of bagels being horrible for you and 99% of the time I would agree. But if you’re an early riser like me get your workout in first thing in the morning and reward yourself with a morning favorite, just make sure you are eating it immediately after your workout.Sushi
Sick of eating chicken and broccoli for dinner? Do what I do, plan an intense workout right before you’re about to go out for a nice dinner and reward yourself with something you normally wouldn’t indulge in. My go to is Sushi, the white rice that most rolls are made up with is great for spiking up insulin levels and helping you build lean muscle to get you toned and firm. (Just don’t go crazy and eat the whole buffet!)
